New Programming for Youth and Young Adults

Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health, Rideauwood, along with the University of Ottawa and other community partners, is developing a virtual harm reduction program for youth.

“Rideauwood has been offering the Choices and Change program to adults for several years now. Recently, we’ve started offering a modified version of the program to young adults. And now, it’s fantastic news that we’re able to build on these successes to reach younger people too,” explains Colleen MacPhee, Rideauwood’s Director of Addiction and Mental Health.

Harm reduction is an evidence-based, client-centred alternative to traditional abstinence-only programs. Rather than having to stop using substances or having to stop engaging in problematic behaviour altogether to access treatment, clients learn ways to reduce harm in order to enhance their skills and knowledge to live safer and healthier lives.

Do you have $5/month to spare? Please consider joining Rideauwood’s Circle of Monthly Giving. It makes supporting Rideauwood easier on your wallet, and you’ll be making a positive impact in your community.

Martha makes a monthly contribution and says, “I don’t give a lot every month, but I know it adds up. Addiction runs in my family – an alcoholic brother and sister, another brother who we lost to drugs. Learning about all the good Rideauwood does to help families gives me hope for the future. People can and do heal so that they are able to share the gifts of who they are with the world. Count me in!”

Monthly giving is a cost-efficient way to donate and one of the best ways to help people struggling with problematic substance use and behavioural addictions such as gambling. Please click here for more information on the Circle of Monthly Giving.
