CHEO-Rideauwood Pilot Project Takes Flight
As of January, CHEO patients and staff have access to an on-site addictions counsellor from Rideauwood. From training hospital staff on substance use issues and available resources, to following up with patients discharged after having been admitted because of a drug overdose – the project has the potential to have a major impact on the health and well-being of youth and their families.
“Rideauwood counsellors are addictions treatment specialists, which is what CHEO had been looking for,” explains Colleen Macphee, Rideauwood’s Director of Addiction and Mental Health. “It’s wonderful when leading organizations like Rideauwood and CHEO combine their expertise to better serve the community.”

It’s Official – Quality Care for You, Your Family and Your Community
In December, Accreditation Canada granted Rideauwood Accreditation Primer status.
Accreditation Canada is a well-respected, non-profit organization that sets high standards for quality and safety in healthcare. To receive the Primer Award, Rideauwood first had to pass a rigorous two-stage process that thoroughly examined every aspect of the organization. The evaluation also included a team from Accreditation Canada interviewing clients and families.
Rideauwood is now the first non-residential, independent, substance use and addiction treatment and support agency in Ottawa to be granted Accreditation Primer status.
“This is an important accomplishment for Rideauwood,” says Johanne Levesque, Executive Director of Rideauwood. “We’re excited to be joining other health care leaders who are raising the bar for safe, quality care.”

Are You and Your Phone Too Close?
Rideauwood school-based counsellors educate students from grades seven to twelve on a variety of topics related to substance use, addictions and related mental health issues. Counsellors show and discuss the 5-minute video It’s not you. Phones are designed to be addicting in their program that addresses problematic screen use which can lead to technology addiction.
