Testimonial

Last week I attended Rideauwood’s training, “Beyond Drugs: Problematic Substance Use Through a Trauma-Informed Lens.” It gave me a clearer view of the patterns I have already been seeing in my work. Substance use rarely appears on its own. It often comes with housing pressure, family strain, trauma, loneliness, and people trying to cope with what they’re carrying. As a mental health clinician, this training reinforced something I see often: substance use is usually rooted in pain, not “bad decisions.” When we slow down, ask better questions, and actually listen, we create the kind of space where people feel safe. That is where real change starts. It is a reminder of how important compassion-first care and harm reduction are, especially in a city where so many individuals and families are navigating heavy challenges. I am grateful to Rideauwood Addiction and Family Services for creating space for learning, reflection, and honest conversations.
