The Canadian Mental Health Association announced on Tuesday that it is relocating its Ottawa offices from the Billings Bridge area to Vanier.

The organization purchased and renovated a three-storey building at 311 McArthur Avenue, between Lacasse and Lafontaine avenues. It is currently located in the Bank Street Professional Centre on Bank at Riverside Drive across from Billings Bridge Shopping Centre. The move is expected to take place this fall.

“With feedback from our clients and staff, we identified the Vanier community as the perfect area to establish a new home for our agency,” said Tim Simboli, executive director of the Ottawa branch. “The community seems to be as excited about the move as we are.”

According to the CMHA, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting good mental health and improving the quality of life of those with serious mental health issues, 90 per cent of its services are provided to clients in their homes. The move, it says, will allow its roughly 180 staff members better access to the downtown core.

According to the CMHA, it is a coincidence its new offices are just a few blocks from the Salvation Army’s proposed mega-shelter at 333 Montreal Rd.
