Who participates in Choices and Change?

Purpose

Clients will learn how to moderate substance use, and will learn safer consumption practices. This can lead to increases in one’s well-being, as well as the pursuit of other goals (health improvement, employment, housing, etc.)

Structure

The program is psychoeducational, using approaches such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural exercises. Clients address coping skills, triggers and urges, and stress management

Program Plan

-12 weekly (1.5hour) groups (8 groups needed for completion)
-Individual counsel
-Before group begins, each client will have a first session with their counsellor to discuss goals.

During COVID-19, Rideauwood has partnered with other agencies through CounsellingConnect to help youth, young adults and adults who are dealing with substance use issues, or other problematic behaviour such as gambling and gaming or supporting a friend/family member who is.
