Filling in the Research Gaps to Serve You Better

When Rideauwood began delivering counselling over Zoom in 2020 as a response to the pandemic, there wasn’t a lot of research data available about delivering virtual group treatment for problematic substance use and addiction.

So, Rideauwood, along with the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services (CRECS), began examining perspectives on virtual care of group participants and counsellors.

“As an evidence-based organization, Rideauwood relies on many factors, including lived experience and research to assist in quality improvement activities, to deliver the best possible care to clients as needs change,” explains Colleen MacPhee, Rideauwood’s Director of Addiction and Mental Health. “This study will help us design quality programming for a post-COVID reality.”

Preliminary research findings reveal that the majority of both participants and counsellors endorse a hybrid virtual/in-person treatment model.

It’s Back – Matching to Make the Season Bright

For registered charities like Rideauwood, the holiday season is an important time of year for raising money to support the people we serve. Traditionally, it’s a time of giving, of family, and of sharing with those in need.

For the second year in a row, Rideauwood is thrilled to announce a special giving opportunity for supporters to double the value of their donations. For every dollar donated to Rideauwood by December 31, 2021, an anonymous individual from the community will match it up to $5,000.

Thank you to the anonymous matching donor who has stepped forward and to everyone who makes a donation this holiday season. We very much appreciate your kindness and generosity!

Rideauwood on Your Radio

This fall, Rideauwood was featured on An Hour to Give, the CityNews Ottawa radio show dedicated to causes and charities.

The broadcast raised awareness of Rideauwood’s services and helped to combat the stigma that surrounds substance use and addiction.

Rideauwood’ participation on An Hour to Give was made possible thanks to the generosity of Terlin Construction.

Your Community Report is Ready

This year’s Community Report celebrates Rideauwood’s 45 years of serving clients, highlights the accomplishments of this past year, and looks at the realities of the addiction treatment sector today. See it for yourself here.

This year, Rideauwood said goodbye to board members Stephan Desbiens and Andy Joyce. Rideauwood thanks them for the leadership and commitment they brought to their role.

Andy reflects on his time on the board:

When I first joined the Board, Rideauwood was in a state of flux. In my view Rideauwood is now in excellent shape – an engaged Board, a strong, energetic Executive Director and a wonderful staff who have managed to somehow bring Rideauwood through this COVID crisis.

One of my most enjoyable moments was attending Medallion Night and hearing firsthand some of the amazing stories of Rideauwood clients.

I think it is an exciting time for all of us with the growing public recognition of the importance of mental health and addiction, especially by our various levels of government. My thanks to my fellow Board members and those of the Rideauwood team with whom I worked for a rewarding six years.
