Our Impact

Our History

  • Rideauwood opens with a three-year pilot start-up grant from Health Canada.
  • Launched programming to support family members, an innovative practice at the time that is now considered best practice.
  • Launched first in-school treatment program in Ottawa.
  • Launched first problem gambling program in Eastern Ontario.
  • Began providing, in partnership with St. Mary's Home, addiction treatment services to pregnant teens and young women. Today this program has been broadened to all young people who are pregnant or parenting.
  • Began providing addiction treatment services to homeless clients of the Canadian Mental Health Association's Ottawa branch concurrent disorders program.
  • Began providing addiction treatment services for Ottawa's chronic Ontario Works participants through the Addiction Service Initiative.
  • Became the treatment provider for Ottawa's Drug Treatment Court program.
  • Joined Project STEP, a community wide response related to the support, treatment, education and prevention of youth addiction in Ottawa.
  • Initiated a Rapid Access Opioid Treatment (RAOT) program for youth and families in response to the increased presence of fentanyl, to the increasing use of opioids and to the opioid crisis.
  • Achieved a comprehensive re-design of all services informed by evidence-based practice, client feedback and staff engagement.
  • Received the Community Builder Award, along with other Project STEP partners, from the United Way.
  • Expanded program offering to include problematic use of technology (gaming, social media, etc.)
  • Appeared as an expert witness to the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology to comment on Bill C-45, the legislation concerning the legalization of cannabis.
  • Broadened the RAOT program to include adults, rename program to Urgent Substance Use Treatment (USUT) and began including other urgent substance use disorders.
  • Launched Early Intervention Drug Treatment Court pilot program.
  • Adapted and redesigned services in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Accreditation Canada awards Rideauwood Primer status.
  • Accreditation Canada awards Rideauwood Accreditation with Commendation status.

Temporary Office Closure

Due to an unexpected building issue, Rideauwood’s office will remain closed through Thursday, September 10.

All scheduled appointments will continue as planned and will be moved to a virtual format. Clients will be contacted directly by their counsellor with information about their appointment.

Understanding Problematic Substance Use and Substance Use Disorders in Youth

This training helps parents, caregivers, teachers and all other caring adults effectively meet the needs of youth across the spectrum of use – from no use to problematic use.
