PARENT PROGRAM
|
The Teen and Parent Program at Rideauwood has worked
on an outpatient basis with teens and young adults (12 - 23) and
their parents since 1979.
The Parent Program offers education and counselling to facilitate
parents' understanding of alcohol and drug abuse and to assist
in developing effective parenting skills to support themselves
and their teen/s through the stages of recovery. |

| PARENT PROGRAM
COMPONENTS |
PHONE INTAKE, with
a counsellor; to discuss program options, complete an intake form,
and
assist with resource materials. |
| ASSESSMENT to determine
the current situation with the family, the teen and drug and/or
alcohol abuse. |
| "P.E.A.K."
(6 weeks, 5 courses annually) |
| A six evening course for parents
whose children's behaviors suggest they are abusing and/or addicted
to mood-altering substances. The sessions include: |
| . Biological, social, and psychological aspects
of substance abuse and addiction. |
| . Differences between kids and adults. |
| . Effects on the teen and family. |
| . Treatment and coping options for parents
and their teens. |
| . Supporting the young person who is making
positive changes. |
| "SUMMIT" |
| A monthly group offering ongoing services for parents
who have completed a "P.E.A.K." Program. Telephone and
individual/couples counselling as needed. . (Evenings) |
| PHASE II |
Parent group counselling is held one evening a week.
This open-ended group has a counselling and
educational focus. Each parent's length of treatment is set individually.
Telephone and individual
/couples counselling are an integral part of PHASE II. (Evenings)

| PHASE III |
A monthly follow-up group open
to clients who have completed Phase II and wish to maintain
contact with a parent group. Telephone and individual/couples
counselling as needed. (Evenings) |
