FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM SERVICES

| GOAL:
|
| To offer education, crisis support and counselling to adults whose
lives have been affected by chemical dependence in the family. |
| |
| OBJECTIVES: |
| To assist clients to develop an understanding of chemical dependency. |
| To assist clients to recognize the ways their lives have been
affected and to encourage and support them towards personal growth
and development. |
| To help clients identify unhelpful or problematic coping behaviours
and to develop their own personal power for emotional, physical,
and spiritual health. |
| To assist clients to recognize the ways in which they themselves
affect the people around them, particularly children or others in
their care. |
| To assist the client to establish a support network in the community
to aid them in maintaining change. |
| |
| PROGRAM: |
| 1. Intake : Telephone Intake Screening
- to determine the degree of crisis in the situation and to recommend
appropriate referrals. |
| For those who require our services, to book a time to attend the
education sessions and to be accepted on a waiting list for the
4 Day Program. |
| 2. Family Education
Series: 2 evening sessions
- 2 hours each held the 1st two (2) Thursdays of each month. |
| Offers information about all aspects of alcohol/drug
abuse and its impact on the family. |
| Continues to assess the need for further Rideauwood
support and/or recommend appropriate community referrals. |
| 3. Waiting List Group: Optional.
Donation basis. |
| 1 ½ hours weekly - Offers information and support
to persons waiting to enter the family program. |
| 4. Assessment : Gathers
information on family history including the addiction history of
partner or significant other. |
| Assesses family member's own chemical use. |
| Determines the seriousness of the situation for the
family member and to make appropriate referrals where necessary. |
| Identifies recovery issues which could be addressed
in counselling. |
| Assists the family member in developing a goal oriented
treatment plan. |
| 5. 4 Day Family Program (Held
4 times annually, every 3 months) |
| Offers additional education, therapy, and support
to further assist clients to meet their goals. |
| Assists them in developing a personal recovery or
change plan. |
| Family members attend for 4 full days (9:00 am - 4:30
P.M.). The program consists of lectures, videos, group counselling,
experiential exercises, and assignments related to chemical dependency
and it's effects on the addicted as well as other members of the
family. Clients are guided to identify what they want to change
in their lives and are given tools to empower them to reach their
goals. |
| A Counsellor's Aide volunteer is assigned for each
program. Clients are encouraged to use this person for additional
support. |
| Upon completion of the 4 Day program, the group meets
for a two week follow-up session. At this point they may continue
on to the weekly group if required. |
| 6. Weekly Group (4 groups
are begun yearly) |
| These groups are available to clients who have completed
the 4 Day Program and who have a need, and feel they could benefit
from a regular weekly therapy group. Each group meets for 2 hours
weekly on evenings for 11 months. |
| 7. Individual Counselling: Group
is considered the critical focus of treatment (clients are encouraged
to join self-help groups such as Alanon, Naranon, A.C.O.A., or others).
However, from time to time, clients will be seen on an individual
basis if required. |
| 8. Intensive Family of Origin Groups
*: Weekly family of origin groups are conducted on a
fee-for-service basis for clients who have completed earlier recovery
goals and would like to experience a deeper healing for past experiences. |
| * A fee is charged. This service is not provincially
funded. |
