ADULT ADDICTIONS PROGRAM
|
| |
| GOAL: |
| To offer an outpatient treatment program
for men and women addicted to alcohol and/or other mood altering
chemicals. |
| |
| OBJECTIVES: |
| To help addicted women or men through
counselling, education, and discussion to: |
| · Understand the nature of addiction
and begin to overcome the fear and avoidance in dealing |
| |
with it. |
| · Understand more fully what addiction
has cost in physical, financial, emotional, social, and |
| |
spiritual terms, and to help maintain
their motivation to work actively towards achieving a more satisfying
life. |
| · Learn to talk openly about problems
and feelings with others who share similar experiences. |
| · Learn new skills for recognizing
blocks to recovery, for coping with day to day stresses and |
| |
problems, and for building satisfying
relationships with self and others. |
| · Develop an ongoing support network
in the community to assist in strengthening and |
| |
maintaining positive change. |
| |
| CURRENT PROGRAM: |
| 1. Wait List Group: After an initial
Telephone Intake Screening, to avoid waiting, a weekly |
| |
Wait List group is provided offering education,
support, and information on community resources and self-help services. |
| 2. Assessment and Treatment Planning:
Rideauwood will assist the client to assess their |
| |
needs and goals for effective change.
Motivated clients without need of detoxification can be accepted
into our outpatient program. The client may, at any stage in treatment,
be referred for further treatment elsewhere if outpatient treatment
alone is not working. Rideauwood accepts clients on Methadone Maintenance. |
| 3. Stabilization Group: Clients
will be offered evening group counselling once weekly for |
| |
support, education and guidance. During
this stabilization period of up to 5 months, the client will see
their physician for a full medical check up. Clients will be monitored
and assessed before deciding to move on to the next phase of treatment
at Rideauwood or before referral elsewhere. |
| 4. Following Stabilization, clients
can decide to enter Evening Treatment or Day Treatment. |
| |
Evening Treatment Program:
Clients can attend a 16 week program of education, group therapy
and support held once weekly in the evenings. They can attend an
additional 4 months of evening sessions in an aftercare group as
required, to work towards self awareness and lifestyle change.
Day Treatment Program: Clients can
attend a day program for ten full days, Monday to Friday, 9:00 -
5:00, to work intensively on their recovery goals. The client will
emerge from this phase with a specific plan of action for recovery.
They can attend an additional 6 months of evening sessions to work
towards self awareness and lifestyle change. |
| 5. Fee for Service Relapse Prevention
Group: Clients will have the option of enrolling in an |
| |
evening Relapse Prevention group for a
reasonable fee. This group is open to the public as an aftercare
service from other treatment programs and can also be accessed by
clients from our Day or Evening Programs who desire further service.
|
| 6. Family Program: Clients are
invited to bring their spouses, family members, or any |
| |
''significant others'' to the final morning
of the 10 Day Treatment Program. Following a brief opportunity for
informal introductions, the family and guests will form a separate
group of their own, and attend a full morning educational session
with a counsellor. Family members from both Day and Evening Programs
are encouraged to become involved in Rideauwood and other Family
Member counselling programs, as well as community self-help groups. |
| 7. Individual Counselling: Clients
are invited to see counsellors for individual sessions as |
| |
needed. Clients also come in periodically
to discuss progress on treatment goals and to set new ones. |
| 8. Women's Group: An additional
group is available to female clients in our regular programs |
| |
who want to work with other recovering
women on issues of mutual interest and concern. |
| 9. Volunteer Counsellor's Aides:
Each client is assigned a Counsellor's Aide as soon as |
| |
possible on admission to the program.
This is a contact person who is available to the client between
group and individual sessions, as needed, for his/her first year
of treatment. |
